But underneath, it can feel overwhelming, heavy, and constant, like you don’t get a break
I know this because I’ve lived it
As a Marine Corps veteran and single mother, I learned to survive by staying alert, staying productive, and always trying to stay in control. In the military, pushing through stress and shutting down emotions often felt necessary to keep going. After service, I carried those same survival patterns into everyday life. I relied on problem-solving, physical activity, staying busy, and journaling to manage emotions and experiences I could not fully process.
As a single mom, I carried the belief that I had to do everything myself and that asking for help meant weakness or risk. Over time, those strategies were not enough. The stress, emotional weight, and past experiences began to surface in ways I could not outrun.
I realized that true strength is not about doing everything alone or staying in control at all times. It is about allowing space to process, receive support, and not carry everything internally. Internally, I felt less pressure and more emotional space. Externally, I became more connected, more present, and less consumed by survival mode. This shift is often what veterans, single mothers, and high-responsibility adults experience when they finally no longer have to hold it all alone.
How I Show Up as a Therapist
I don’t believe in rushing your story or pushing you to go places you’re not ready for.
In our work together, you’re in control.
My role is to create a space where you can slow down, feel safe, and begin to understand what’s been weighing on you—without judgment, pressure, or expectations.
We’ll move at your pace, focusing on what feels important to you. Some days that might look like talking things through. Other days, it might be learning ways to feel more grounded or gently processing deeper experiences using EMDR.
You don’t have to explain everything perfectly.
You don’t have to have the “right words.”
You just have to show up as you are.
